From our Head of School

Many years ago, a group of leaders from our community dared to dream big and then act on an idea.  They created a Jewish school in Central New York that has grown and flourished for over half a century:  The Syracuse Hebrew Day School.

What kind of school is SHDS?  It’s Jewish, but hardly parochial.  On the contrary, it actively promotes in its students a breadth of vision and engagement that leads to tremendous success in all they do.  There is an energy and joy at the Day School that make us different from other schools.  In addition to our dual curriculum, with the obvious benefits of second language acquisition, we offer dynamic programming in the arts, science and technology.  Our unusually robust curriculum and our small size provide learning opportunities that simply don’t exist at other schools.

Our weekly assemblies, our active student council, Club 56, the Day School Players, Science Club and Chai Lights Chorus provide an educational environment that is so engaging that the children learn more.

Beyond helping develop their minds, we also instill in our students a profound sense of self – a “self” that’s been nurtured, enriched and challenged so that our graduates leave SHDS with a confidence they’ll carry for a lifetime.

We invite you to explore our website and hopefully join our community.
