Born and raised in Israel, Mrs. Downie has been part of the Syracuse Jewish community since 1996. For more than twenty years, she has been teaching Hebrew and Jewish Studies in many of the Syracuse Jewish schools. Since 2000, she has taught Hebrew and led the Hebrew- Tables at Syracuse University in the Department of Languages, and the Maxwell School. Mrs. Downie has had the pleasure of being part of the teaching team at SHDS since 2014.
Mrs. Downie received a teaching certificate (K-12) in Physical Education from Wingate Institute in Israel, a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Cortland, a Master in Teaching and Curriculum from Syracuse University, and a dual Certificate of Advanced Studies in Second Language Teaching and Digital Instructional Design. She received the 2019 Teaching Recognition Award recognizing excellence in teaching from the Middle Eastern Studies program at the Maxwell School. She is a member of Language Educators of Central New York and is committed to continuing her education in Language teaching.
