Shachar Mario Mordechai was born in Haifa in northern Israel and grew up in Kiryat Bialik. Shachar is both a teacher and an artist. His poetry book “A Feather and Son” (עבור את הלילה בלוע האש) was published in 2022, which is the recipient of the 2023 Zelda award in Israel, granted by the Jerusalem municipality and the Mashiv Ha-Ruach (משיב הרוח) poetry association. Previous poetry books include: “History of the Future,” “Who’s on our Side”, and “Make Room for the Rain”. Shachar is the 2021 recipient of Goldberg Award in Israel and the 2020 Bustan scholarship of the National Library. Shachar is also the 2017 recipient of the Prime Minister’s award for creativity in poetry and the 2010 recipient of Tel Aviv Municipality’s nationwide Poetry Competition. His poems were translated to Arabic, English, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Norwegian, Kurdish, Turkish, Greek, Croatian. Shachar has a BA and MA from Haifa University and a Teaching Diploma from Bar Ilan University. Shachar is SHDS’ Shaliach as well as our Ivrit Teacher for 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades.
